My work comes from the tradition of narrative art, updated to a contemporary art and social context. Tramlines is typical in that it tells a story through creating a tension between text and images, a tension which both abets the narrative and finds resolution by the end. In this case there are eight images, each with its own text panel. The black and white images refer to the formalism of High Modernism, while the text not only undermines the autonomy that this aesthetic liked to claim, but manages to use this seeming standoffishness to amplify the emotional impact.  Although the narrative is fiction, it is hoped that the reaction it engenders rings true.
